Data Technology Lead

Purpose of Role
To lead a team of data technologists in the delivery of innovative data and reporting solutions to the organization. This is a key role that will be expected to provide technical leadership and expertise within the team and co-ordinate delivery activities with the other technical and business teams. You will need to become an expert on our data stack and how it can be leveraged and improved. The team is geographically dispersed.
Primary Duties
- Engage with business teams to understand requirements, clarify, and translate to workable system changes.
- Lead technical design and implementation and propose innovative solutions to improve or replace current data systems and processes.
- Scope, design, lead and review changes to a complex, mission-critical infrastructure.
- Contribute ideas for building a strategic data technology roadmap and work hands-on in delivering projects in line with the roadmap.
- Liaise with third party data vendors and co-ordinate delivery of new data sets or changes to existing data sets and vendor APIs utilising the existing small offshore team of developers.
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior members of the team.
- Ensure a high level of testing and documentation.
- Drive continuous process improvements by liaising with technology operations and business teams and building tools to enable better monitoring and maintenance of operational data processes.
- Perform code reviews, set coding practices and guidelines, and sign off releases for production rollout.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills
Essential
- 15+ years’ development experience with java and SQL expertise
- Able to demonstrate a willingness and ability to lead other developers.
- 5+ years of solid database design and development including SQL, data modelling, query optimisation.
- Experience in handling financial data sets and familiarity with financial instruments (equities, futures, FX)
- Experience of systems design and platform selection. Ability to develop & test solutions to address the client problems & requirement.
- Excellent communication skills. Should have strong relationship management skills and be comfortable interacting with all management levels
- Well organised with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple streams of work.
Beneficial
- Experience in designing & developing data processing solutions & custom ETL pipelines for varied data formats.
- Experience of developing tools for managing/visualising/exploring complex data sets
- Exposure to Python
- Exposure to data vendor technology; Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters etc
- Statistical analysis of large/complex data sets
- Exposure to Cloud technologies, particularly AWS and Snowflake
- Experience of managing offshore resources in India.
- Familiarity with Big Data ecosystem
Educational & Professional Qualifications
- Educated to degree (or equivalent) level or higher, from a leading university.
- A degree with mathematical and computing content (e.g., Computer Science, Maths, Physics)

- Researchers and portfolio managers in macro and equity businesses
- Other technologists in the data team
- Other technologists across the company
- Members of the Technology Operations team
- Personnel from data vendors (to press for data problems to be fixed and to discuss and on-board new data sources)
