Job Title: Credit Underwriting-SME
Job Summary
The Credit Underwriting-SME is responsible for evaluating creditworthiness of small and medium enterprise (SME) customers applying for loans or credit facilities. The role involves financial analysis, risk assessment, and making informed credit decisions while ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Analyze loan applications for SME customers including working capital loans, term loans, and business loans.
Assess financial statements such as balance sheets, profit & loss statements, cash flow statements, and bank statements.
Evaluate borrower credit history, repayment capacity, and business performance.
Conduct industry and market analysis to understand business risks.
Review collateral valuation and security documentation where applicable.
Prepare credit appraisal notes and recommend approval, modification, or rejection of applications.
Ensure adherence to internal credit policies and regulatory requirements.
Coordinate with sales, risk, and operations teams to process loan applications efficiently.
Monitor existing SME accounts and identify early warning signals of credit risk.
Maintain accurate documentation and records of credit decisions.
Experience
Typically 2–6 years of experience in loan underwriting in a bank, NBFC, or fintech company.

Preferred Knowledge
Ratio analysis (DSCR, leverage ratios, liquidity ratios)
Cash flow analysis
Credit bureau report analysis (CIBIL or equivalent)
Understanding of business sectors and risk indicators
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Quality of credit decisions
Portfolio delinquency levels
Turnaround time (TAT) for loan processing
Compliance with risk and credit policies

Skills Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- MBA / PGDM in Finance (preferred but not always mandatory).
