Job Purpose

To lead and manage the credit underwriting function for Loan Against Property (LAP) across the state, ensuring portfolio quality, policy adherence, and achievement of business growth with controlled risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Credit Underwriting & Risk Management.

  • Oversee end-to-end credit appraisal of LAP cases (Salaried, Self-Employed, SME).

  • Ensure strict adherence to credit policies, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory norms.

  • Assess borrower profiles, cash flows, property valuations, legal reports, and collateral risks.

  • Approve / recommend credit proposals within delegated authority.

Portfolio Quality Management

  • Monitor portfolio performance, delinquency trends, and early warning signals.

  • Drive corrective actions to control NPAs and improve asset quality.

  • Review high-risk cases, exceptions, and restructuring proposals.

Policy & Process Governance

  • Implement and periodically review credit policies based on market and portfolio trends.

  • Ensure compliance with RBI regulations, internal audits, and credit controls.

  • Reduce turnaround time (TAT) while maintaining underwriting quality.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and manage state-level credit managers and credit officers.

  • Conduct regular training on underwriting, fraud risk, and policy updates.

  • Set performance goals and review productivity and quality metrics.

Stakeholder Management

  • Work closely with Sales, Operations, Legal, and Valuation teams for smooth

  • disbursement.

  • Provide credit guidance to business teams without compromising risk standards.

  • Support expansion into new geographies or products within LAP.

Reporting & Analytics

  • Prepare and present MIS, portfolio reviews, and risk reports to senior management.

  • Analyze trends in approvals, rejections, deviations, and portfolio performance.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of LAP products, property laws, and credit risk.

  • Expertise in financial analysis, cash flow assessment, and collateral evaluation.

  • Leadership, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills.

  • High attention to detail and strong risk judgment.

  • Proficiency in MIS, credit systems, and Excel.

Experience

  • Minimum 4–6 years in LAP credit.

  • Prior experience managing a state or large regional credit function preferred.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Portfolio quality (GNPA/NNPA).

  • Credit approval TAT.

  • Policy compliance & audit scores.

  • Team productivity and quality.

  • Support business growth with controlled risk.
